Locally known as GenSan, General Santos is referred to as TUNA CITY because of its large tuna fishing industry. The sorrounding area is known as SOCSARGEN-South Cotabato Sultan Kudarat Sarangani General Santos. The country around Sarangani Bay has crystal clear spring resorts, rich coral reefs, undeveloped coves and white sand beaches.GenSan is also an important base fro trekking in the sorrounding highlands. The region is home to the BILAAN tribe and the colourfully dressed TIBOLI tribe.
